I took it to the car wash yesterday to get all the mag chloride crap off, and in the process of washing the roof a few chunks of roof came off, exposing the rusted metal underneath. I suspect it was painted over in order to sell quicker because it seems odd that within a few months the roof would be cracking, peeling, and loosing chunks when it had been fine for 8 years in Michigan. When I checked the roof when I got there it seemed ok, there was maybe one spider crack in it that was the size of a dime or so but didn't seem to bad, now I'd say I'm missing about 8 square inches of paint since then.
Ahh well, what can ya do, its not a show truck. Not going to bother repainting it just to have the rust win the battle again. I'll wait until the rust eats clear through the metal and then I'll chop it or something :).
chop it now i'll bring the saw-zaw

if it's anything to you matt, 2 years ago i was driving through the U.P. of Michigan and saw a 2002 (could tell it was an 02 from the lights) F-350 with a nice bit of cancer developeing along the rocker panel and the rear fender in the bed.

Could this be a problem area with the Explorers? While doing the teardown on mine we noticed that the right rear panel and the whole roof had been replaced. I just assumed it had ended up on its top at some point. Maybe it was hit In the rear and they decided to fix the rusty roof too. If so, It would be kinda the opposite of the early Bronco's. We have an 8 inch section that's prone to rust... And the EB's might have an 8 inch section that ISN'T prone to rust. Of course, that would be 8 inches, sectioned out over the truck in dime to nickle sized sections. :)

I took it to the car wash again to get all the snow crap off it, and blew about another 6-9 square inches of paint off the roof LOL.
