Heard about it ont he news last night but was reading about it this morning too... a 12-year old gets stabbed in the hand by an adult who apparently tried to steal his candy. ITS CANDY! You can buy it at the store for a few dollars for a giant bag! holy crap!
Wonder what this world is coming to sometimes.

This is exactly why we need to go back to public hangings on the courthouse lawn and shorten the appeals process to a matter of weeks instead of decades. There's no REAL punishment anymore so whats to keep a criminal from commiting crimes?
"Don't rob this 12 year old kid or, SO HELP ME we'll put you away in a place where you got cable, private tv's, heat and air conditioning, your clothes cleaned for you, three meals a day and all the snacks you can get out of the vending machines!"
I agree it is sad. Before I took the kids out, I made sure I was prepared incase we ran into trouble while we were out walking around. And I don't live in a bad neighborhood or feel I was being overly cautious.
It is sad, but that is what our society, specifically the PC lackeys want.
They cram tolerance down our throats and then bitch that we're surrounded my freaks, idiots, criminals and weirdos.
I could go on, but I've already racked up enough "jerk points" for the day. :)

its funny just yesterday we were having a company pot luck and got talking about how kids were treated differently in schools 20-30+ years ago then they were now. They talked about getting paddled by the teachers in school, and if your parents heard (which they always did) that you got paddled in school, you got a double-paddling at home. If you were really bad at school, the teacher paddled you then the principal paddled you even harder. But then lawsuits and people believing that everything is everyone elses fault started to ruin everything. "I only misbehaved because I learned it from my parents! You can't paddle me!" etc. etc.
I think we should go back to paddling. How many kids really fear detention or as Ray said, how many fear jail?

In all seriousness, I do remember from my education classes that CO is a corporal punnishment state, where the kids can be paddled. But, does anyone do it - Nooooo. Too much flack and fear from the student, parents, social services, etc. Sheesh.

IMHO, a lot more kids would not be such idiots (I'm being nice here!) if we COULD whap 'em upside the head once or twice. Even some of the kids I've taught need smacked.

Yes - I am a teacher and I feel this way. :)

And like Matt said, kids today have it SO much easier than we did. I know that when I was in school, my dad was on school board from the time I was 7th grade through 11th grade. Small school in NE Colo. Everyone knew everyone else and their business. It's true, you'd get in trouble at school & get it double when you got home.

Ray I kind of agree with you except instead of public hangings(too quick), lets have public stonings(alot more painfull and last a long time). Lets quit giving these dirtbag, lowlife, bottom of the gene pool, bottom feeders, an place to live/medical/education, and make prison a punishment and not a luxury. Make them work for everything they get in there(and then that wouldn't be the best there is either). You work or you go without. Did you know that old Max here in Canon used to be self supportive? The convicts worked at their own gardens, dairy, cannery. Then one of our appointed shepards(I won't say which one), shut it all down. Good call:thumbsup: dumb ass.
Heres an idea my mother has for all the overpopulation of our prisons.........
At the end of each month you give a knife to evry convict. You tell the con that they have 1 day to take care of their business. At the end of the day, you collect all the knives, and throw the dead bodies over the wall. Done!!!
I think you'd have a lot less people killing(yes pun intended) to get in there......
Okay Rant off.....
PS if some SOB ever stabbed my kids(or messed with them in any way), the cops better get them first, because if not, I would be going up for murder........

I totally agree with you. I've said for a long time that these people that are in prison had to have done something out in society. If you were a plumber... You get to be a plumber in prison. An electrician? Thats your job in jail. Work construction? You get to be a part of the chain gang that goes out every day and builds new prisons. Farmer or rancher? You tend the fields or livestock. Don't have ANY skills? GREAT!!!! Theres lots of latrines that need to be cleaned. And if you decide you don't need to go to work that day? We'll decide you don't really need to eat that day.
I think a lot of the problems they have in prisons are due to bordom. These men and women aren't being physically challenged with work like everyone else in society, so all they have to do is sit around and pick fights with each other.
With as many people and as many different skills that are gathered together in prisons, I see no reason why every prison shouldn't be at least 90% self sufficient.

I'd vote for ya :).
FYI heard an update to the story and it said that the boy wasnt actually stabbed, but instead had his hand injured by his sunglasses or something during a fight for the candy. I still think its wrong that an adult would try to steal a kids freakin halloween candy. Its one thing when a kid does it to another kid, but holy crap, thats like stealing candy from a baby! LOL
