I've been offered a really good deal on a Skyjacker 3'' lift for my supercrew. It's the front shocks and coils and rear add a leafs.
Does any ony know how hard of an install these kits are? I have no experience with the new trucks at all.
Thanks,
Scott

If its the same as my 2000 (I think its fairly close as I recall) than its not a walk in the park, but its not like your doing a solid axle swap or anything, just gotta have the right tools and some patience is all... I know I was helping the shop that put my old lift on my F-150 and it was a Skyjacker 6", the front end took about a day and a half with 3 guys working on it with a lift and all the proper tools, not easy by any standards.

Sounds like I'll have to buy the beer, and have a few of you guys over to help...LOL. The shop I called today said it would be around $450 just for the install.
I don't know yet if I'm going to buyit or not, I really want a 6'' lift. It's just not in the budget at the moment.

who are you getting the lift through(shop)?

The kit is accually for a 2 wd. It's used kit from an individual, but I talked with the guys down at 4-wheel parts in denver for the parts I need to use it on my 4x4. The springs and shocks are the same for the 2wd and 4x4 kits. I just need to get some different hardware and brackets.

Personally I will say this... don't settle, if its not something you really want. If you want a 6" lift, you'll look at that 3" lift every day and think "Man I wish I'd gotten the 6", this 3" is barely noticeable" until you finally give in, re-spend the money and re-install it.

I'll agree with Matt. Although I originally got the Rancho 4" lift I wanted, I later wanted more clearance for for 35" tires, and added on a 3" body lift. I suggest, if you want 6" now, wait until you have the money. Do it the way you want, right the first time. Otherwise you will always be second guessing yourself.

And just in case you do order something from 4-wheel parts, don't forget to say you are with the Rocky Mountain Ford Truck Club and you get a discount :).

i did the same thing got a 4" lift and wanted to go bigger so i put on a 3" body lift and 37" tires so i would also tell you if you really want a 6" wait

I agree. If you don't get exactly what you want, you won't be happy with it... And I'm jealous that you even have an option for a 6" lift. The only way I could get a 6" lift on my soccer-mom-mobile is with a floor jack. :)

here's my take on it, do what everyone is telling you and go with what you initally want. I would say this, do it all suspension and no body, since all body does is clears bigger tires, you never really get much out of ground clearence. Since you live in Castle Rock, i'd suggest coming up and talking to Chris and Paula at Off- Road Innovations, (parker and jordan roads in centennial, not that far away and a hell of a lot closer than 4 wheel parts) and see what they would suggest

Thanks for all the advice. My only problem is that it will be a really long wait for the 6'' lift. When I do it, I want it done the right way. I figured that the 6'' will cost about 2500-3000. I won't have those funds for a while, unless I sell my other toys. The 3'' is only running me around $200. For that reason alone, I think I'm going to get the 3'' for now.
Also, thanks for the advice about the club discount and off-road innovations. I'll check them out.

Well, it doesn't matter now.....The guy that was holding the kit for me sold it to some one else. I may just put the leveling kit on the front for now, and then save my pennies for the 6'' kit. Like you all said, it's what I want any way. Thanks again for every one's advice. Hopefully my job will slow down soon, and I can get out for one of you outings.

Are you looking for just height to clear tires for a look or are you looking to get better off roading?
If its just bigger tires, And you think you would be happy, temporarily at least with 3" of lift, I would look into a body lift. Its true, they don't do anything for you off road, but it would be an investment of $300 or so as opposed to a thousand or more for the 3" suspension lift. They are relatively easy to install and can be left on when you get the suspension lift you want. It could mean fitting larger tires on now instead of a couple or years down the road. That is if you do like I did and get your wheels and tires off of CraigsList on the cheap. ($100 for MT wheels and $500 for 35" Micky's, new, about 1year old, off of an unfinished project. a guys wife was making him get rid of. I love hen-pecked husbands!)
You could be rolling for about the same amount that it would cost to buy the lift.
Just a thought.
