I've been thinking of the news article I read that a company can make diamonds from hair and are making some from strands of hair from a composer and will auction them off after they make a tour of museums.
This got me thinking. I know that what men think is a caring and thoughtful gift is sometimes not what women think is a good gift. (Yes, we did think that buying you that tool set to keep in your car was a way to show that we love you. In our minds it shows we care.)
So I thought, "wow, that would be cool. An engagement ring or wedding rings with diamonds made from hair of the person you are marrying. So its not just another rock that was dug out of the ground, its an actual part of the person.
Or maybe a ring with a diamond from each child they have after they get their first hair cut. Something like that.
Sounds pretty cool huh? It also sounds a bit morbid, like Angelina Jolie and Billy-bob Thorton wearing vials of each others blood around their neck.
So I'm torn on the idea.
Is it a wonderfully romantic gesture to make a ring that will allow your loved one to carry a piece of you with them wherever they go?
Or something really creepy. The "forever" equivalent to hacking off your ear and mailing it to a prostitute you are stalking?
Just thought I'd get some dialogue going today.

1. It wasn't a tool set; it was jumper cables
2. It's creepy.

Who told you about that???

I'm about like you on that subject - I think it's both interesting and creepy. I guess I'd have to see what the rock looked like once complete. (How is the process even done?) Having purchased a diamond engagement ring about six months ago, it did occur to me how all diamonds - aside from their color/clarity/cut/weight ratings - are pretty much the same...

I could just see it now though. Two guys talking after a messy divorce.
"Man that sucks, she even kept the wedding ring that was made from your hair. Doesn't it bother you that you're ex wife is carrying a part of you around with her all the time?"
"Not really. You know how much I hated people touching my mullet when we got married. And since I knew it wasn't going to last I decided not to cut my hair for the ring. She got a ring made entirely of nose and back hair. So I figure she got exactly what she deserved." :)

yeah I'm not really sure about that... I like the idea except if they can make a diamond out of hair or whatever, I'd imagine it wouldn't be cheap (not that regular diamonds are cheap either but you get the idea).
Diamonds suck though, and the ads are worst. Like telling if you get to small of a diamond or not clear enough, you obviously don't love her enough... and once you are married, a few years later you should find some reason to marry her again, and get her more diamonds. And what says I love you like diamonds? Nothing. Freakin mongers.
