They were doing a five o-clock phoner last night on Alice about the most lopsided Christmas, where you gave someone something really totally awesome, and you got something really crappy in return. There was some great stories, people that gave really expensive jewelry but the other person got them little trinkets, etc. One guy talked about how he got his girlfriend a promise ring (like $850) and she got him a comb.

Got me thinking back to many many Christmas's ago. I had turned 16 and had just started working, and was making basically minimum wage, and working like 3-4 hours a day after school, so each paycheck was like $300. I decided to go for being a great brother and bought my sister a $150 (which in todays terms would be like $1000) suede Mickey Mouse jacket for my sister. She was big into Mickey Mouse and she loved the jacket, it was the only jacket she wore for several years and I'm sure she still has it and loves it. So what did I get from her? A talking G.I. Joe. I have no idea what her thinking was in getting me that. This continued for several years, I'd get her something great for Christmas/birthdays and I'd get odd things like a Happy Birthday Barbie with a matching tiara, and just weird presents. Then, even the crummy presents stopped and I haven't gotten anything in a while, even though last year I got her a good gift Certificate to Best Buy. So this year, she gets nothing. her kids get presents though.
My brother is no better. I can't think of the last present he got me, but I always get him something. Last year I also got him a real nice gift certificate and once they realized I got them something, was told "oh we got you something too, we just left it at home" but I never saw anything... so this year, his kids get presents, he gets nothing.

I know its about the giving not the receiving, but you can only give and not receive for so many years before saying screw it, I'm looking out for #1 :).

Anyone else have good lopsided Christmas stories? :)

I almost had one. I told my girlfriend I would have a custom frame made for some artwork she did. It's like 35" by 50" in size. Went to Aaron Brothers framing two nights ago and they priced the frame at like $600. I almost passed out. Fortunately, so did she. The downside is I have to come up with another idea.
