Recently Chris and I have been playing some Texas Hold em with some friends and I think its a lot of fun. For those unfamiliar with the game, its the one they always play on World Series of Poker, etc. Theres 5 community cards and then each person gets two cards, yada yada. Long story short we don't play for more then about $20 a night, typically with pots no more then a few dollars at a time, because no one can really afford to loose much (hey I'm there too). Anyone interested in doing this some night?

That does sound like fun, even though I would have to be taught how to play just your basic poker all over again. It has been a long time since I have played cards...LOL Also, it kind of stinks on having to drive up North just for a night of gaming and then have to drive back.
Matt, have you ever thought about maybe having "division's" within Colorado for our club? That way each little division can do their own things within their city and then maybe a couple times a month do the big "statewide" get-togethers such as the ones you all have in Denver? Just a thought for those that have to make the big drives to do anything with the other members.

Well depending on where we had the poker night I"m sure you could crash at someones place for the night... especially if the game goes late :). I know Chris has slept on my couch before, and he only lives about 20 mineuts away (though he was very drunk, LOL)...
As of right now, we don't really have enough active members to justify "Divisions" but once we start having that issue, I'm definately open to it.

As long as its not on a weeknight I'm up for it. Might have to hold up a 7-11 on the way, but it seems I don't usually lose when I'm broke. LOL..

yeah it would pretty much always be on weekends I'd think. I'm looking to buy some chips so we can play like the big boys :). I want to get good enough so I'm confident enough to play it in central city or vegas (as long as its low stakes, LOL)
I'd love to, but I'm just the opposite, I can't do anything on the weekends. I'd have to make it weeknights. So I guess I'll be left out on this extravaganza.
But fear not, come October 1, I'll be able to do things on the weekends for at least a few weeks. At least until maternal leave is done, and my wife has to go back to work.

Good lord thats alot of chips. What kind of ante are we talking about. I've never really played hold-em, and I don't waste what precious little time I have watching that kind of stuff on the tube. I usually stick to blackjack if I venture away from the slots at the casinos.

I figure a $10 ante is good... LOL j/k. We've been playing nickel ante, no max bet. We haven't gotten into the complexities of blinds, etc. yet.
I figured its better to get too many chips rather then not enough... otherwise you have to buy more later and they might nto match, yada yada. That whole set with the case cost me $30. It's 650 chips and came with the case. A similiar set which was 240 chips cost $40 at Target, go figure.

Yea, I love ebay. The nickle ante ought to work. 7-11 only keeps $20 in the drawer, so a $10 ante would take half of my funds. LOL..
Haha! This is going to be great. I have yet to game with a bad group of people. As long as nobody takes things too seriously and is in it to have some fun, it's a blast. As for me, I have two rules. The first is - count on losing my $20 and the second is - don't buy more than about another $5 in chips. That limits my maximum loss to something I can handle and I'm pleasantly surprised if I walk away with more. Last time we played I won $2 - woo hoo! :D

Why is it that you guys started playing this AFTER I moved??? Ass Holes!!!

LOL cause Greg started having poker parties at his house, Heath! Seriously though, you should move back, then you don't have to owrry about it :). It's funny though, the people that moved into your apartment have a dog named bailey... after Baileys Irish Creme. :). But yeah Chris has got it right... $20 buy-in, and I wont buy more then $5 extra chips... though last time that worked out for me. I was down to about $1.50 in chips so I bought an extra $5 worth, a few hands later ended up with a Full-house that brought in about $10 or so... then got down to about $6 or 7 dollars, before a four-of-a-kind (4 10's, woohoo!) brought me back up to about $23. So I lost the $2 that Chris won, but it was all in good fun, like Chris, I just go expecting to loose $20 and if I walk away with money, all the better.
Heath, if it makes you feel any better, you started this whole thing. LOL Greg has become a poker fiend now - he's even going to start playing at a local pub (for food, etc.). And we did play at your place at least twice (or was it 3 times?)...
Also, we can credit you with making us wise enough to NEVER play Acey Ducey again... :P

My dad and I like to play Acey Ducy.
Bah, I still like Acey Ducy...
So you still like losing lots and lots of money, huh? :P:D

I don't normally lose at Acey Ducy
mattadams
07-14-2004, 07:45 AM
you would've lost big if we weren't such good friends :). LOL. Acey duecy is alright, pot just gets too big too fast for my liking. Texas Hold em is a fun game you can play for hours :).

Is this the first official long distance tickle fight? I'd would be up for some poker, maybe when we go camping??
Dom
Dom - that sounds like a great idea. And since you'll have a complete table and chairs (in addition to your hot tub, big screen TV and fridge), it'll be no problem to play... :D:P

What do you guys think of playing some poker while we're up camping?
I think it's a great idea - some cards 'round the campfire. :D Just as long as nobody's a sore loser... I can bring a card table or two and some chairs as well.

I'm zipping back to Seattle on Monday, but I'll be hauling ass to get back for the camping trip and a little poker. I know I haven't met you guys yet, but I have a pretty good sized house in Parker with a wet bar in the basement and a girlfriend who lets me smoke cigars as long as the door is open. I'm up for hosting a poker game. Oh yeah, got a pool too.
Wet bar, pool and smoking cigars allowed??? Damn, what's your address? LOL J/K That's very cool of you, though. I'm sure we'll definitely take you up on that offer sooner or later...

The only problem is you have to walk about 75' from the wetbar to the pool/hot tub, the good news is I have a fridge by the pool and tub!!!!
I'll try to meet you guys next weekend!

For those who know me, will take my word for this. I can do a killer canon ball, but there is one problem. There is no recoil on the diving board.
That's okay, Jeff, it's all about the splash anyway!

Oh sure .. you guys are gonna make me setup our tent on the next hill so my little boy can actually sleep
j/k ... that little bugger fell asleep during the 4th of july fireworks ! he'll sleep through anything ...
so as long as I don't get in too much trouble with the wif .. I'll definitely be in for a few hands!

Poker night with the boys - $25.00 in losses
Beer by the pool - $10.00 per poker player
Having to see a grown man in a thong - Too much to bear!!!
Cigar smokin' female poker player in a thong - Priceless!!
I have called Speedo directly and asked them to not ship any mens thongs to Colorado for the next 15 years!

I prefer used, that way it's already pre-stretched.
Well, I thought since we didn't get to play while camping (a good idea, BTW - it would've been tough up there!) - I'd revive this thread and see if there was still interest in an RMFTC poker night.
Anyone?
