Saturday is Saxon Mountain, dont anyone forget! :).
But on Sunday myself, Chris, Courtney, and Maggie are going to go hike the Devils Head trail. For those that haven't heard of it, its the last remaining staffed fire lookout tower in Colorado, its about an hour drive from Denver. The views are breathtaking, Denver and Colorado Springs are just blips on the horizon.
It's about a mile and a half hike but is failry steep (you gain about 1000 feet in a mile and a half) but the views are worth it. We'll be scoping it out for our camping trip as well (theres a campsite that requires no hiking to get to and its at the trailhead, so we'll look into that as well).
Probably will be leaving fairly early, let me know if your interested in going along!

Ooo, I'll go, I'll go! :D

Okay, I was already going - as Matt said - but I thought I'd try to interject some excitement here. Sounds like a fun trail from the reading I've been doing on it. It's near Rampart Range Rd. too so some mild off-roading could be done afterwards if anyone wanted...

That was a great hike! Quite a bit of work - mostly uphill on the way there - but so worth it! I threw together this little photo montage:

Devil's Head - for those who haven't been - is definitely worth a morning... :)

yeah it was a decent hike. A little hard on the climb up because it was so steep, but not too bad or anything. maggie scared me to death on those stairs though, she got to one point in the stairs where it basically just drops away to nothing and she was just looking over the edge, just about gave me a heart attack, LOL. She did ok though. The campground was not really one I'd advise everyone to stay at, just a lot of traffic going thorugh there, its hard to enjoy the splendor of the mountains when cars are driving by every 5 minutes :).

It looks like fun, I may have been up there when I was just a tyke, but that was a loooooong time ago.

Heh, yeah, those stairs. The picture in the montage doesn't really do it justice. Here's one that does a bit better job:

(sorry it's a big picture, but in this case it's the only way to truly appreciate the climb!)

Pucker factor (on scale of 1 = no big deal; 10 = find a bathroom): 8.5

:D

I'll take everyone's word for it that the views make the hike worth it.

Yeah, it was pretty amazing, but as you can see in that last picture, I was hangin on pretty tight to those hand rails!
So I've been told that next weekend it's my turn to choose a trail to hike since Chris picked last weekend and Matt this weekend ... and being that I've only lived in CO a short few weeks and I barely even know how to get home, I don't know of any. Any suggestions???

I have a hike for you. It's Bear Peak. I did this hike back about 10 years ago when I used to be able to do these kinds of things. I highly recommend this hike.

I'm not sure we (more so me) are ready to do a trail rated 'difficult'... I have in no way adapted to the altitude as of yet... but the one we did today climbed (I think) 1000 ft in a mile and a half, so I wouldn't imagine 1400ft in 7 miles would be too steep of a climb, but I'm sure it's rated that way for a reason... that and that would a long day of hiking that I don't think our bodies could handle (well Chris's probably could now)

Matt, Chris... what are your thoughts on this one???
...or anyone else that would want to join in
Thanks Jeff for the suggestion!

Hey guys, check out that site though b/c even if that one doesn't sound like we could do, there are a few others listed to the right that may be good...
... and it would be nice to spend some time in my neighborhood that I don't know much about yet. LOL

How about the trail up to Horsetooth in Ft. Collins?

http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/HorsetoothMtn_Park_2670.asp

The hike isn't bad at all, and climbing up on the teeth offers some great views.

Or there's this one called Little Yellowstone Canyon

It's pretty easy as well, and has some pretty nice scenery.
