Matt, I think I read your doing your brakes again? If so, what brand did you go with for rotors and pads?

I am trying ot find a sponsor for the front rotors... More then likely i am doing the ART Rotors like I have in the rear though if I have to pay for them, LOL. I'm sick of the Brembos being toast after only 15-20000 miles.

Are all the 97 and up trucks hard on brakes or what? I swear I always hear something about someone doing brakes on the 97+ trucks...
My friend has a 97 and he was just complaining that he spent $75 bucks for front pads.. (something about metallics or something?) I was like "god damn!" and I complain if I have to pay $40 for brakes... I don't have much expierience with the newer body style trucks..

They dont seem very good on brakes for some reason... my stock brakes lasted til about 70,000 miles which for rotors isn't very good... then I upgraded to Brembo's, and they lasted even less, they lasted about 20,000 miles and that was with a turning halfway through.
Theres somethign that makes them warp rather easily....

Since I bought my truck new in 98, I've spent a few thousand on the brakes.

I am preparing to replace my rear brakes, something to do with power braking I think. Gets hard on the tires too.
Heh.. My dad is getting the pads replaced on our 2002 Excursion pretty quick here. Its right at 45,000 miles. The truck we just bought has its original rotors at 97,000 miles. Both of those are Powerstrokes. The truck is a 99 F-250 supercab. In relation to the pads and rotors on the Excursion, its a heck of a lot better than our 2 Suburbans we used to have back when we were Chevy people. We replaced the pads every... about 9500 miles? The rotors went every 20k or so. Not to mention the Suburbans transmission issues. Those things WERE NOT made to haul 5000 pound stuff heh.
What would any of you recommend for a 02 PSD Excursion, pad-wise? Are ceramics a good choice?

I've tried a few different knds of pads, but haven't really paid attentiont o whats done better with certain circumstances because the rotors are usually the first things to go, I've often tossed out pads that still had half life in them. Welcome to RMFTC, by the way :).

I've seen a bunch of folks on FTW talking about EBC Rotors. I checked on tire rack and they are about $180 for a set, plus pads. I'm always up for trying new things... LOL.

I just finished the rear pads on my truck. Nothing special, just the cheapest pads Ckecker sells, but was amazed at how easy it was. It took longer to torque the lug nuts than it did to change the pads.

Well I decided to go with EBC Sport Grooved Rotors and EBC 6000 Series Truck/SUV pads. They should be here mid week and I'll see how this stuff performs.

Since I ordered the stuff yesterday from http://www.tirerack.com for the front, what should I do about the back? I know the back has drums/shoes, but Tire Rack did not have anything available for the back and I'm assuming something needs to be replaced in the back. Do I just go to Autozone and get their generic parts?

the back don't need to be replaced nearly as often as the fronts. I've gone through one set of rears and three sets of fronts. Rear drums last even longer. My dad had a vehicle with 200,000 miles on it that never needed the rears replaced. my advice, don't replace ther ears unless they need it.

The bank account will like the sound of that.

Are you and Cory going to install them? Hopefully so, brake shops rape you sometimes. How much did they end up costing with shipping and everything? I will probably order some brakes before I get my lift done, and do them at the same time.

My rotors and pads came in and they sure look purty. Now I’ll have to see how the hold up and perform.
