First off, I've never heard of this before today.

I took the truck to get the emissions test done. I was the 3rd vehicle in line and while waiting, one of the techs working there, came out to my truck and measured the tire height. She told me I was lucky, because my tire barely met the limit of 33". I asked what she meant by a limit, and she said their tire restraints can only hold up to 33" tires. I asked what do people do with larger tires, and she said it's up to the vehicle owner to find a smaller set of tires to do the test. She said it's this way through out the metro area.

Thats bull that they'd have that requirement.... I've heard different places can test different sized tires. When I was getting my emissions tested they were testing a bronco that easily 35"s if not 38"s.
Hell what will they do when the H2's come in for emissions? They come stock with 35"s.

When a vehicle such as the H2 comes in for an e-test, it is tested the old way without the dyno. I recently toured the research facility for enviro-test, and the rollers on the dyno's cannot safely accomodate tires larger than 33". So, if the placard on the door sill says that your vehicle came from the MFR with tires that are smaller than 33", they will make you find tires that fit on the dyno. Don't feel so bad though. All these ricers that are lowered, have body kits, and ultra low profile tires have it worse. They have to do whatever it takes to have tires with enough profile on them for the side rollers to make contact with including removing body kits, and modified suspensions.

Damn, that sucks. But thx for the warning. Now I have just over a year to either wear my tires down under the 33", or find another set for the test.

By the way, its only for the drive tires. You could put your stock size spare on and borrow someone elses to make a pair.

Yep this is very true. This is also why I have a set of "steelies" for my truck and I have 31's mounted on them for emissions purposes. I also have to put them on if I want to put my truck in the garage.
