Okay - I know this is a truck club and all - but I figure some of you also enjoy getting out and doing physical activities, right? Right...? Anyway, the Moonlight Classic bike ride is coming up on August 20th (yes, I'm getting an early start here) and I'm curious if there's any interest in putting together a TEAM RMFTC for the event?

The cost to enter is $30 - most of which benefits Seniors Inc. - a non-profit group that helps out the elderly. Matt and I rode last year and it was a bunch of fun! The ride is non-competitive (i.e., not a race) and follows a short 8-mile or 15-mile route (your choice). Matt can tell you, the feeling of cruising around downtown Denver after midnight with thousands of other cyclists is awesome! Much more information can be found here: http://www.moonlight-classic.com/home/about.html

So - if you're interested, post here and - if we get enough people - I'll volunteer to organize the first-ever TEAM RMFTC. :D

Yeah, it was an awesome event last year and I will for sure be there again. It was great riding through streets that are normally clogged with traffic, and having it be just you and the other bikers. You don't have to be in super shape for this ride, last year I bought my bike just a few weeks before the classic and I rode it the whole way without resting, something about riding at night gives you more energy or something.
And last year it wasn't just downtown, I haven't looked at the route this year, but you started off at the capital and ended at the capital, but you went all the way out to cherry creek mall, etc. so it was a great "tour" of the city and as with anything, there was safety in numbers... no one would mess with you because you were surrounded by thousands of other bikers.
I'd love to see a "Team RMFTC", even without jerseys etc. it'd still be cool :).

Oh yeah, one other thing in regards to the moonlight classic, for those families with kids, etc. there was LOTS of people there that had their kids riding along with them. Last time Chris, Jason (Chris's friend) and I rode together, we started near the end of the pack and finished in pretty good time, even after having breakfast, chilling out for a while, packing up and leaving there was still a lot of folks coming through. It's not a race, just a lot of fun so if your kids go a little slow, don't worry about it!

You mean I'd have to "pedal" a bike?............I'm used to twisting my wrist to get moving on a bike :D

Okay folks, this ride is now only 15-miles (with an 8-mile shortcut option) and you can start as early as 10pm now. There's no excuse not to join us; if you don't own a bike, rent one!

August 20th may seem like a long way away, but - from my experience - time just keeps a haulin' ass...

So... "Bike ride" means we can just load the bike on the car and drive around right? Like people do on bike to work day. Load the bike on the car, drive to work but park at a different building no more than three blocks away and "ride" to work.

or the taxi service in Vail that drives you to the top of Vail pass with your bike so you can ride down...... Couldn't we just paint some old folks' house or something? I'll volunteer mine. LOL....

Okay, it's been about 3 months since I posted anything about this - time for a BUMP! :D The date is actually getting closer too - just a little over a month away! I'm still hopeful some RMFTC members will join Matt and me (along with our significant others) for this fun ride!

More information can be found here (www.moonlight-classic.com) It's only $30 - which benefits a good cause - and you get a t-shirt, water bottle and ride packet with coupons for free stuff!

So - who's doing this with us? It's NEXT WEEKEND!!! I know Matt, Courtney, Amy and I will be there - anyone else? You can currently register at participating bike shops (a listing can be found at http://www.moonlight-classic.com/home/reg.html) and get your t-shirt, water bottle, etc.

Should be a fun night! :D

well it wasn't as good as it was last year but it was still fun. They really need to change the start time back to midnight, there was way too much traffic on the roads. Screw the bars getting out and so forth, I was more worried about the intersections with no patrolling and how many cars there were!

Yeah, it was fun but they need to make some changes. Pushing the time back to midnight again is a good start.

Here are a few pictures from the ride:
